Tried every "passive income" method for 12 months. Affiliate marketing, dropshipping, courses, print-on-demand. Total earnings: $340. Total hours: 600+.

โ–ธ What I did
Spent a year trying to build passive income streams. Month 1-3: affiliate marketing blog. Month 4-6: dropshipping store. Month 7-9: online course on Excel. Month 10-12: print-on-demand t-shirts.

โ–ธ What I expected
At least ONE of these would generate $500-1,000/month.

โ–ธ What actually happened
Affiliate blog: $180 in 12 months. Dropshipping: -$200. Excel course: $95. Print-on-demand: $265 (but $80 in fees). Net total: approximately $340. Time invested: 600+ hours. That's $0.57/hour.

โ–ธ What I've tried so far
For each method, I followed the playbook. The pattern was always the same: initial excitement โ†’ mediocre results โ†’ guru says "you just need to be more consistent" โ†’ give up and try next method.

The biggest lie in personal finance content is the word "passive." NOTHING is passive at the start. The people making $10K/month "passively" spent 2-3 years of VERY ACTIVE work building the asset first. They just show you the end result, not the years of grind. Your mistake wasn't trying these methods โ€” it was switching every 3 months. Each method you tried COULD work, but only if you commit for 12-18 months to a SINGLE one. You gave each method 3 months. That's like planting 4 different seeds, pulling each one out after a week to check the roots, and concluding that gardening doesn't work.

$340 from 600 hours is painful, but here's the silver lining: you now have first-hand experience with 4 different business models and knowledge of what DOESN'T work. That's more real-world education than any course could give you. The meta-play: write about your experience. "I tried every passive income method for a year โ€” here's the truth" is content that would genuinely resonate on Reddit or Medium because it's honest in a sea of fake success stories. Sometimes the content about the failure IS the business model.

Want actual passive income? Index funds. Seriously. Not sexy, not YouTubable, but $500/month into VTI for 20 years at historical returns = roughly $300K. That's $1,000-1,500/month in dividends. It's the most boring, most effective "passive income" strategy that exists. The reason no YouTuber promotes it: there's nothing to sell. No course, no tool, no affiliate link. Just "buy VTI and wait."
